Warden Law, Tyne and Wear

Warden Law lies some 7km south of the City of Sunderland and is the site of a gravel quarry. A cist was exposed by the gravel extraction in 1979 and despite being damaged was found to comprise of a mound overlying a stone cist containing cordoned urn and cremated bone.

The cordoned urn is simply decorated with diagonal incised lines and a raised cordon on the girth. The rim is bevelled inwards and decorated with a lattice of incised lines. Cordoned urns are not common in Northumberland. The cremated bone was identified as a small child between 3 and 6 years old.
