I went from nightshift home, changed my underwear, had a shower and I packed a suitcase which was no bigger than, a little hand case. I haven't got to this day a picture of my mother; I didn't have room to put things. I took a warm blanket because I knew if I had to sleep in the forest. I got on the train going to the coast went half the way then stopped the Germans bombed from the air the train couldn't proceed so went back to Toulouse and couldn't leave the station because I knew the station was under army control wouldn't let me go in and out. I left and I got to Bayonne it was very near the Spanish border. Now the point was whether to escape to Spain over the Pyrenees or to escape to England.
