A photo of Nonek

Nonek was born in Warsaw, Poland. Nonek was studying in Toulouse, France when World War Two broke out. He escaped France and fled to England where he lived in London before moving to Newcastle. He has lived here ever since.

Nonke was interviewed by Anita Wan on 28 June 2006. The interview took place in the participant's home and lasted for 1 hour 44 minutes.

She had an uncle and aunt lived in Newcastle and I was invited one Saturday afternoon for tea there, she was there and also her cousin and her husband and after tea all of them disappeared in the kitchen drying cups and I was left with her uncle. Her uncle said to me What are your intentions towards Claire? I said Very serious and I said I was very fond of her and we got married four months later we got married in the registry office in Claremont Terrace, I remember it was before the new civic hall was built.
